Paint and Color

Here we are with a big witchy holiday upon us. And I love big witchy holidays.

As I am sure you are aware, the veil between the worlds thins out at this time of year and for some reason the colors orange and black have come to be associated with All Hallow’s Eve. My theory is that the marigold harvest and the assumed color of death have influenced these color choices, but I have absolutely no proof.

You are most likely madly preparing for the big day, and are dying for professional advice about which oranges and blacks to use in your painting of the cornstalks, sticks, gourds, baskets, the garden furniture, the lawn, etc., etc.

I’m going to give it to you straight: for a sophisticated red-orange, not pumpkiny or burnt, I say Tucker Orange CW-300 is the one. And I could LIVE in the purple-black of Velvet Cloak CSP-480. Check out Midnight Dreams 2129-10 and Onyx 2133-10, too.

On all the big celebratory holidays, I ask the store staff to chime in because I do not need to hoard all the fun. Store manager Dennis, who thinks this is silly and no one needs guidance when it comes to orange and black, says Jack-o-Lantern 2156-30 and Jet Black 2120-10 are the no-brainers.

Assistant manager Jeff, who plays along good-naturedly, says Fiesta Orange 084 and Black PM-9 are his picks.

Eric, a rabid sports fan, is basing his orange on the Philly Flyers (Electric Orange 2015-10). The Star Wars films inspire his choice of Space Black 2119-10.

Dave says Outrageous Orange 2013-10 and Wrought Iron 2124-10. Downright tasteful.

Joe takes these things very seriously, and for that I am grateful. After a lot of searching, he went with 14 Carrots CSP-1110 and Twilight Zone 2127-10.
